Retired Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer


Mike is a first-generation Funeral Director/Mortician who began his professional career in 1968 after graduating from Lakefield High School. He started working at the Rost Funeral Home in southwestern Minnesota. In 1970, he earned his associate's degree in arts from Worthington Junior College. He graduated from the University of Minnesota's Program of Mortuary Science with a Bachelor of Science degree. While a student, he was an integral member of the Anatomy Bequest program. He also graduated from the National Foundation of Funeral Services and received his license in October 1972.


In 1973, Mike purchased the Wallin Funeral Homes in Worthington and Heron Lake, Minnesota. In 1976, he bought the Rost Funeral Home in his hometown of Lakefield. Over the next few years, he owned five garden cemeteries in southwestern Minnesota and northwest Iowa. Over his 40+ years in funeral service, Mike has held professional licenses in Minnesota, South Dakota, and now Alaska. He is a graduate of Life Appreciation.


Mike has been active in various professional and civic associations, including serving as President of the local Lions Club, President and District Director of the Jaycees Club, and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He has served on many different boards and civic committees and is a former board member of several financial institutions.


In his semi-retirement, Mike operates the Hasara family businesses, farms, and raises livestock in southern Minnesota.
