Mark was a longtime Alaskan. Born in Nebraska and spending his early years in Montana, he made Anchorage his home. He attended Turnagain Elementary, Romig Junior High, and graduated from West Anchorage High School.

Mark was a U.S. Navy veteran, proud of his honorable service aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal. He graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. Over the years, he worked as a Funeral Director at several funeral homes in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. In 2004, he founded Cook Inlet Funeral Home/Cremation.

He operated Cook Inlet Funeral until 2006 when his health forced him to retire early. Mark sold Cook Inlet to the Hasara family that year and continued to work as an Associate Funeral Director. He also served as the in-house Anchorage historian.

Mark passed away on April 30, 2016, at his Anchorage residence.
